Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation
The best candidates for breast augmentation surgery are people wishing they had larger breasts with increased projection and symmetry. Excellent candidates for breast augmentation with implants are in good overall health and do not have any pre-existing conditions that could lead to complications.
Non-smokers are preferred, since smoking can prolong the healing process. Smokers must quit weeks before the breast augmentation procedure and must avoid smoking during the recovery period.
The two of you will go over the differences between silicone and saline implants, along with implant projection, texture, shape, and size. Dr. Kornstein’s specialized method of determining ideal breast implant size allows patients to avoid any need for a revision procedure.
You and Dr. Kornstein can also discuss another technique he performs: fat grafting breast augmentation. This method of breast enhancement transfers excess fat from other parts of the body to the breasts.
He will perform a physical examination and discuss your medical history, including past procedures, allergies, and any pre-existing conditions. Dr. Kornstein will also go over the details of the procedure, including all pre- and post-operative steps. It will be important for you to ask any clarifying questions that you may have.
Dr. Kornstein prefers the periareolar incision. This is made around the areola. This option allows for effective concealment of the incision within the areola’s border. It also offers a great deal of surgical visibility, helps to avoid changes in nipple sensation, and makes any future implant-related procedures easier.
Once the incision is created, a pocket is made in the tissues of the chest to house the implant. Dr. Kornstein uses sub-muscular implant placement (under the pectoralis major muscle). This placement option creates a very natural look for the upper breast. It also helps avoid capsular contracture, an often-painful condition where the scar-tissue capsule that forms around the implant is thicker and tighter than usual.
After the breast implant is placed into the tissue pocket and positioned properly, the incision is closed using surgical sutures.
Recovery and Healing
Patients usually need to take around five to seven days off from work. They must avoid physically strenuous activities like heavy exercise for two to four weeks.
How Much Does a Breast Augmentation Cost?
The price of a breast augmentation with implant will be determined based on a multitude of factors. The techniques used, total surgical time, anesthesia costs, and the price of the implants all play a role in the overall cost of the procedure.
